As many of you probably already know, Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
~Grab your current read. Open to a random page. Share two (2) “teaser” sentences (or short paragraphs) from somewhere on that page.
~BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
~Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Basic Book Info:
Title: The Time Traveler's Wife Author: Audrey Niffenegger
Genre: Time Travel, Romance, Paranormal
Publication Date: July 2004
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Summary (B&N):
Audrey Niffenegger's innovative debut, The Time Traveler's Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry finds himself periodically displaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.
The Time Traveler’s Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's marriage and their passionate love for each other, as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals — steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.
My Teaser, from Page 100:
"Is that what you wanted?" I ask. "Yes," says Clare. "That was perfect. Thank you." "My pleasure." I'm getting dizzy. "I think I'm almost gone." Clare pulls onto a sidestreet. The rain is drumming on the car. It's like riding through a car wash. "Kiss me," she demands. I do, and then I'm gone.I don't want to give away too much with that quote, but I will say that if you read the book, you'd understand what's going on. It's kind of a funny moment, what Clare has Henry do before this conversation. I'm loving this books so far, and I can't wait to see the movie as well! I'm just happy that I managed to get a copy of this book to read right now. See, about a month ago I was looking on the library's online catalogue to see if they had this book, and they did-- five copies! But then I saw that all of them were checked out. Okay, that's fine, I just sign in and request the book. That's when I notice how many are in front of me on the hold list-- 36!! A month later, and I've barely moved up to 25 on the list. At this rate, I'm not going to be able to read it until the end of the year! So last night, I decided to check out my local library, which is a lot smaller than the library I was originally requesting the book from, and what do you know? They had their copy on the shelf! I grabbed it up, along with a few others, all for my LT 999 challenges, so that's my excuse for getting even more books when I already have a lot, and I've been devouring it since about 11 last night. Now it's back to working on the next Want to Read post, a review, and tomorrow's 'WOW' post. And don't forget about the possible contest I have in mind for next month....I'll post the details here as soon as I have it all worked out! ;) Enjoy! Until Next Time, I do not own the words quoted from this book.

TBQ,
I am interested in reading this book and I have to say it is all due to the movie. :) I vaguely recall the book coming out - but at that time it did not strike a chord with me. The recent ad runs for the movie however have piqued my interest - and I'm all about reading the book first. :)

Hi TBQ!
This is one of my very favorite books!! :)
I keep meaning to pick this book up! I want to read it before I see the movie :)
Michelle--
I know what you mean-- I've seen this book for years, others have even been recommending it for a while now, but the cover just never grabbed my attention. And the sad thing is, even if the book itself sounds interesting, I tend to judge it based on the cover.... But then the movie production started and I thought 'Well, I'll get it from my library before then and see if it's good, compare it to the movie'. Now that I'm reading it, I'm glad I am-- it's really a good book! ;)
Blanche-- I'm glad you loved it so much! ;) I've got about 200 pages left and I already know it's going on my favorite list! :D
Katie-- If you have the chance to pick it up before the movie, I think you should. ;) It's a good book, and even though they always try to stick to the book when they make a movie, who knows how close they will? I have to say, Eric Bana looks like a god Henry, and Rachel fits Clare, at least when I picture the story. ;)
Enjoy!
