[Pat's Review]: "The Millionaire's Unexpected Proposal"

The Millionaire's Unexpected Proposal by Jane Peden
Publisher: Entangled: Indulgence (March 31, 2015)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

His marriage of inconvenience…
Camilla Winthrop is about to do something she's never done in her life—she's about to ask a man to marry her. Not just any man. She hasn't seen Sam Flanagan in almost five years, after he coldly walked away from a passionate and intense two-week affair. Now Camilla is widowed and desperate…and marrying Sam is the only way she can protect their son. The son he never knew about.

A hugely successful attorney in Miami, Sam certainly never expected to see the stunning Camilla come through his door again. Nor can he ignore the desire heating his blood. But after she tells him her situation, Sam is furious. He'll marry her, but under his terms. And he'll take everything, including Camilla in his bed…unless she can find a way to thaw the millionaire's icy heart once more.

Pat Review:

This story centers around what was supposed to be a meaningless encounter in Las Vegas. It turns out to be life changing.

Sam Flanagan is a very successful attorney with two partners. Five years ago he quit his lucrative position in a law firm to open his own. Taking some time off, he heads to Vegas for a break. He meets a beautiful sexy woman named Camilla and for two weeks they are inseparable, Camilla is swept off her feet, but Sam walks out on her. Now suddenly, she is at his office requesting to see him?  He's sure it's a scam.

One week after her encounter with Sam, she married Daniel Winthrop. Daniel was paralyzed after a car accident  and lived his life in a wheelchair. He had contacted her offering help with hospital bills etc. after a car crash killed her parents and severely injured her sister Olivia. She had to marry him for his help. It was a marriage of convenience, but Camilla and Olivia grew to love him. Very soon in her marriage she was shocked to realize she was pregnant. There was no doubt it was Sam's, and several attempts to contact him failed. Her son JD was born and Danny loved him like his own.  After Danny's sudden death, his parents made Camilla the target for their anger. Even threatening a custody battle.

Sam from the start was angry, arrogant and seemingly heartless, except when it came to JD. He loved that little boy instantly. He agreed to marry Camilla for his sake, but couldn't bring himself to forgive her. Camilla is proud and strong, hating to have to beg for help, but she would do anything for her son and sister.

This was an interesting novel. Sam was working behind Camilla's back to insure his place in JD's life no matter what happened, but gradually realizes he has loved Camilla from their first encounter. Too late Sam realizes his subterfuge could push her away forever.  Emotions run high in this novel, and after a rough start I warmed up to Sam.  Wonderful characters and an enjoyable read.
