[Kame's Review]: "Blind Love"

Blind Love by Kishan Paul
Publisher: Samhain Publishing, Ltd. (June 2, 2015)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

She doesn’t need a hero. But a sexy Marine…that’ll work.

Though Lauren Baxter’s world is a blurry mess of colors, she has no tolerance for pity. With the help of her guide dog, Jack Sparrow, she’s built a good life for herself. She has everything she wants: her PhD, a thriving counseling practice and her independence.

When she meets her new neighbor, the man’s warm Texas accent and clean male scent weaken her knees. Her attraction to the former Marine is mutual and, unfortunately, a complication she doesn’t need.

Gabriel Briggs carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He has his reasons for indulging only in short-term flings, but the feisty, green-eyed Lauren makes him want to forget every one.

In a rare moment of fragility, Lauren winds up in Gabe’s arms. One night together can’t break their self-imposed rules, right? But when a woman from Gabe’s past is murdered, the reasons he should have stayed away become painfully clear, threatening innocent lives he may not be able to save—especially Lauren’s.

Warning: Contains a blind therapist who doesn’t consider herself impaired; a meddling, erotic-novel-writing best friend; a hot ex-Marine with a shady past; and a loyal guide dog that howls “I love you” and is probably the sanest one of the bunch.

Kame's Review:

Lauren has a thriving counseling practice, a great townhouse, a BFF who is the world's best personal assistant, parents who annoy her, an ex-husband who cheated on her, a sexy neighbor who has her imagination sparking, and a dog that loves her.  And oh yeah she is blind. The blind heroine intrigued me and made me request this book for review.

Lauren is a well rounded character and I adored her determination to live a "normal" life. Some may think she was way too sensitive about her disability, but as someone who has a niece with a similar disability I think this characterization was spot on. Gabe, he was a rather mystery guy at the first, he was hiding a lot; his pain and all his perceived mistakes. One small detail that I think is brilliant was that except for the few things Lauren's best friend tells her about Gabe every detail about him we learn is from Lauren's perspective.  No glowing details about eyes the color of the sea, no big comments about his six pack - I loved that - we saw Gabe how Lauren does - and honestly I fell in love with him too!

The plot is different and has a twist in Gabe's life I wasn't expecting. Most intimate scenes were behind closed doors, but you definitely got the feeling of a spark of attraction. This is an extremely easy read and I didn't want to put it down.

Loved this story. Even the secondary characters were well-rounded, though my favorite was Jack.

Oh, that would have made me pick this one up, too. I like what you say about Lauren being the one to reveal Gabe to the reader from her perspective.
