Pat's Review:

This is a compelling love story, with tension and suspense making it even more exciting. A young woman, Valerie, escapes her nightmare life in Washington, DC. It was physical abuse and verbal torture that finally set her on her new path. With the help of a friend, she changes her appearance, her name, and heads to Oregon. But she never relaxes, always ready to flee at a moments notice. She is now Tessa, and lives in Sutter Lake. She bakes for a tea shop owned by a friend, Jensen, and helps out working her horse rescue sanctuary, which she loves.

Liam is a popular singer/songwriter from LA who is also escaping a tragedy. A fan obsessed with him attempted suicide because he didn’t acknowledge her. He now has serious writers block, and is questioning his life choices. He came to Sutter Lake to be with his best friend Taylor, who we met in Beautifully Broken Pieces. A chance meeting with Tessa sends her into her panic/hide mode, which makes him want to know more about her. They see each other a lot because of mutual friends, and Tessa becomes more comfortable around him. Liam’s silent muse suddenly fills his mind with music notes when he is with her. Tessa is letting down her guard little by little, and Liam starts to hear words for his music. But their growing feelings are interrupted by suspicious events that seem to be aimed at Tessa. Has her ex found her? This time she has friends to protect her, especially Liam who becomes her personal bodyguard.

This romantic suspense novel is filled with small town characters, family and love. Courage, strength and passion fill the pages, and I couldn’t put it down. I had to keep tissues handy for the first and second time I read it! Ms. Cowles stories are always an amazing adventure.
