Publisher: Avon (September 27, 2016)

On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library.

•Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville—the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit … and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?

That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.

[Cover Reveal]: "Personal Target"

WELCOME TO THE BLOG, KAY! :)

I didn’t grow up burning to be a writer. As a child I wasn’t even much of a reader until fourth grade. That’s when I was stuck at home with the flu and my big sister read THE BLACK STALLION aloud to me. For hours I was enthralled—shipwrecked in a foreign land and riding an untamed horse across the hot desert sand. Then tragedy struck. My sister lost her voice. (I think she caught my flu.) But I couldn’t wait to hear what happened to Alec Ramsey—so I picked up that book, finished reading it by myself, and went in search of more adventures at the local library. Today I live in Dallas with my husband, our two children, and a shockingly-spoiled Boston terrier.

Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks (May 13, 2014)
Series: Rusk University, 1
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.

Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

[Review]: "When Beauty Tamed the Beast"

My Review:

Oh my...there simply are not enough words to properly describe how I loved this book. I could sum up my reason for loving it by saying that it's a Beauty and the Beast tale, and I so love B+B. But that's not the only reason. I could say it's because of the House like hero, but that's not enough. I could say it is because Eloisa James is a very talented writer, but, while that is true as well, my love of this book is much deeper than that. I love this book for all these reasons and many more!

Linnet is simply wonderful. A beauty with wit and strength, she could have easily been one who relied only on her looks. But as the story goes on, it's clear that this is not the case. She knows how beautiful she is, she knows how her charms affect others, especially men. But she does not let it go to her head. I loved the fact that she stood up to Piers. He needed a woman who would give as good as she gets, and that's what he got! :D

"A barking-mad doctor---that's me---and a wickedly conniving beauty--that's you--limping along together in a lifetime of happiness? I hardly think so. You've been reading too many fairy stories."

"Who says I can read? I can barely count, remember?"

He glanced at her and decided, once again, to withhold the family smile. "I'm starting to think I may have been wrong about your abilities. You can probably count all the way to ten and back."

"That just warms my heart," she cooed. "Since it comes from the great doctor and all."

Piers...ah, how I loved him! Such a unique hero, very different from most romance heroes. He's not perfect, he's not smooth and charming. He's harsh, sarcastic, and crude at times, but I loved him all the more for it. He made me laugh, he made me smile, and in the end I fell for him just as hard as Linnet. What's more, he fell for her, even though it took some time for him to admit to it and take the next step in their relationship--a happily ever after worthy of a true fairy tale.

Just before he opened the door, he stopped and dropped a kiss on her nose. "If I were to marry anyone, Linnet, it would be you."

"I always knew these breasts would come in handy," she said with satisfaction.

Some of the secondary characters were a riot, as well. I think my favorite, hands down, was Prufrock. He, too, knew how to handle House--er, Piers. :D

Besides the great characters and wit, I also enjoyed the sexy parts. And may I applaud James' on her writing skills. She turned her love scenes into something very different from most romances out there. They were filled with conversation and wit, yet still managed to make me very happy! :) Such well done love scenes, as I think in the hands of any other author they would have turned out, well, boring.

"You know?" She glanced at him, and a little flare of color rose in her cheeks.

"What?" he said, rearranging himself discreetly and then rewrapping the towel more tightly.

"You're going to laugh, being a doctor and all, but my mother said something one..."

"What?" He had always had control over his body. Always. This was an aberration.

"She told me once that men hung."

"Hung?" he repeated. If he looked just at her face, then he wouldn't see the way thin lines clung to her breasts, to her hips. He wouldn't think about the deep hunger flaring in his groins. It was just a biological urge, nothing more.

"Hung," she said, giggling again. "In front. You don't hang, do you?" She waved a hand in the general vicinity of his waist. "You don't mind my saying that, do you? I formed this disgusting vision of--of a hanging thing and--well, you don't hang at all. You stand straight up."

He burst out laughing.

"I know," she said, laughing too. "I'm a fool."

But he had an uneasy feeling that he was the fool.

Also:

"This"--he said, running his hand down himself--"is an erection. And I, by the way, am not incapable, as you should have known the moment you saw me standing up rather than flopping around."

Linnet's throat tightened. She would rather like to touch him that way herself.

"A man gets an erection only when he would like to bed a woman. If not, he hangs."
\
\"Oh. My mother was correct, then. Can you make yours hang, so I see what it looks like?"

He ran a slow hand over himself again. "No. Impossible."

"It's not within your control?"

"Not at the moment and rarely around you, to my surprise."

5 STARS! Overall a fantastic historical, and one that will stand out in my mind for years to come! This novel reminded me of why I love this genre. If you want something new to read, a book that will have you laughing and thoroughly enjoying yourself on every page, this is it!

With This Kiss (Part Three) by Eloisa James

Genre: Historical Romance

Lieutenant Colin Barry returns from the wars injured in body and spirit, knowing that he has no right to steal Grace from the arms of her fiancé. Yet the same warrior's spirit that won so many battles at sea is prompting him to throw propriety to the winds, imitate his pirate father, and simply take what he most desires!

My Review:

With this final installment in this serial, Grace and Colin finally get the HEA they both deserve.

What I loved most about this novella wasn't the love scenes, but rather when Colin pulled out all of Grace's letters, wrote the reply he was never able to before, and read them to her. Not only did this help to heal him, but it helpe to strengthen their relationship as well, as Grace finally knew he trusted her with his past.

3.5 STARS! A fine finale to Eloisa James' first attempt at a serial, and one that you can easily read from start to finish with a smile on your face. I'll admit I'm not enthusiastic about the thought of reading serials often, but when done well, such as this one, I think it's something I can enjoy once in a while.

Colin is finally home--honorably discharged for his wounds. After years of sailing into war, returning unscathed, his luck has finally run out. At this point, it is unclear whether he will regain his sight, but either way he is not the same young man Grace fell in love with all those years ago. 4 STARS! Another lovely episode from the talented hands of Eloisa James, in part two we see that Colin does indeed have thoughts for Grace. But their HEA isn't quiet here yet. I look forward to it thought, as I find myself caught up in their story, not wanting to leave just yet.

My Review:

Eloisa James kicks off her first serial beautifully, giving the readers a peak into the background of Grace and Colin's life.

I can certainly connect with Grave. She's nothing like her younger sister Lily, who is prizes for her beauty, charm and warmth. Grace is more of the quiet and kind wallflower. After years of writing to Colin, hoping he would finally see how much she loves him, she has hear heart broken when he visits and asks for Lily's hand instead.

Colin...oh Colin. You've been through a great deal, served your country when you never wanted to kill anyone. But will you realize that true prize you can have, before it's too late?

4 STARS! A lovely introduction, and one I quickly read, anxious for more. I can only hope that the remaining two parts are just as wonderful as this one!

My Review:

Jennifer McQuiston's debut, What Happens in Scotland, is an entertaining historical, and one that is, in my opinion, a little different from most historicals. How many do you know of where the hero and heroine meet during a drunken night (which is an unusual state for both of them), pretend marry, wreck havoc on the town, and then get married for real? Only to wake up in the morning with no memory of any of it? And add on some family issues, on both sides, and a man trying to kill the hero (and steal the heroine) and you have a recipe for crazy, but in a good way. :)

I giggled a few times, while Georgette was trying to piece together the events; the way that a few of the men worded what happened, it sounded like she had done some very horrible, and intimate, things with them. Come to find out that instead it was all very innocent. On a side note, I was very happy to see her standing up for herself and taking control, something that she did not have when she was married before.

James...ah, what a wonderful hero! He's tough, but he's honest. He works hard for his money, and doesn't want it just handed to him. And he has a beard. Oh yes. ;)

4 STARS! Overall, a lovely debut, and one that I truly enjoyed. I can't wait to see what McQuiston offers us next (Cameron's story, I hear, which I look forward to!). There may have been a few bumps along the road, but not enough to keep me from enjoying this one. If you want to have a (scandalous) good time, be sure to pick up What Happens in Scotland!

[Review]: "Seduced by the Gladiator"

Seduced by the Gladiator by Lauren Hawkeye
Publisher: Avon Red (January 29, 2013)
Genre: Erotica (Historical)

Author Lauren Hawkeye returns to Ancient Rome in her second erotic romance featuring sexy, fierce gladiators—and the women they love.

Lilia is the rarest of commodities—a champion female gladiator. But success has come with a price: shunned by her peers and desired by hateful men like Gaius, the brother of the emperor, Lilia is at the mercy of those around her. Only her heart is impenetrable.

After Christus, a warrior with the body of a god, is sold to the ludus that owns Lilia, she finds herself forced to defend her position and to guard her body and heart against the erotic sensations only he can bring. Beneath the tantalizing flesh of the gladiator, Lilia finds a man determined to protect her, to love her.

But when Gaius reveals a challenge for the gladiators of Rome—an epic battle to the death—Christus and Lilia must fight to win their freedom, their lives . . . and each other.

My Review:

I loved this book!  It wasn't a typical historical, but I've come to expect this from Lauren Hawkeye. Instead of visiting the balls of the London ton, I was taken back to the times of the gladiators, and I loved every shocking, raw moment of it!

Lilia was a wonderful heroine, very strong, but not so strong that she can't learn to lean on someone else when need be. I found her story very interesting, I guess I never thought about a woman as a gladiator. In fact, as this is written from the 1st person, I was a bit taken back when, around 4 or 5 pages in, I realized that this mighty gladiator was, in fact, a woman. Entirely my fault for not reading the summary first. ;) Oh well, it may have surprised me, but in a good way.

Christus..ah, what a wonderful hero. So dangerous. So tortured. Such a strong man, forced into slavery and treated like a caged lion, brought out to fight, to stare at, but not worthy of anything. I almost cried when he told Lilia about his past. He so deserved a HEA, Lilia as well, and I was happy to see them reach it.

“Have you thought that, by letting someone in, you will be stronger than you are alone.”
~Christus

I can't tell you how much I loved this quote. Not only did it fit so beautifully, as Lilia was so hesitant to let someone in, thinking that the only way she could stay strong was by keeping that wall up. But this quote...it really hit home with me, perhaps due to some personal issues I've had lately. Regardless, I thought this simple quote, while perhaps not the sexiest one in the book, was the perfect one to describe Seduced by the Gladiator. And when he then tells her a few paragraphs later that she needs to accept that she's no longer alone, she's his...I melted!

4.5 STARS! Emotionally gripping, physically demanding, Seduced by the Gladiator is a perfect read! But be warned—it is not for the faint of heart. It's gritty, raw and rough, sticking to the real Rome of the past. If you prefer your historicals to be more tepid, look somewhere else, because this one is not for you. But if you want to try something new and exotic, this is the author to keep your eye on. Two gladiator books so far and I'm hooked, fascinated by the love stories she weaves during such a hard, but shockingly intriguing era! For a wickedly sexy and wonderfully intense story, be sure to pick this one up! Fair warning though: read this one at home... I wanted to finish reading it so bad, I took it with me. Let's just say that as steamy as this is, I could not stop myself from blushing, wondering if the people sitting next to me where reading over my shoulder...If so, they sure got an eyeful! :)

I love my typical historicals set in Scotland and England...but once in a while I love to find a new setting and era to explore. If you do, too, I would highly suggest trying Seduced by the Gladiator, as well as her previous book, My Wicked Gladiators.

Enjoy!

[ARC Review]: "One Good Earl Deserves a Lover"

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean
Publisher: Avon (January 29, 2013)
Series: The Rules of Scoundrels, 2
Genre: Historical Romance

The second in the incredible new Rules of Scoundrels series from New York Times bestselling author Sarah MacLean. Lady Philippa Marbury is odd. The bespectacled, brilliant fourth daughter of the Marquess of Needham and Dolby cares more for books than balls, flora than fashion and science than the season. Nearly engaged to Lord Castleton, Pippa wants to explore the scandalous parts of London she's never seen before marriage. And she knows just who to ask: the tall, charming, quick-witted bookkeeper of The Fallen Angel, London's most notorious and coveted gaming hell, known only as Cross.

Like any good scientist, Pippa's done her research and Cross's reputation makes him perfect for her scheme. She wants science without emotion - the experience of ruination without the repercussions of ruination. And who better to provide her with the experience than this legendary man? But when this odd, unexpected female propositions Cross, it's more than tempting . . . and it will take everything he has to resist following his instincts - and giving the lady precisely what she wants.

My Review:

I'll be honest--for the first, oh, 80 pages or so I was a bit unsure about this one. It just...wasn't grabbing (and holding) my attention. Why? I'm not quite sure, perhaps it was just my mood at the time. Perhaps it was the story. It's hard to say.

But I stuck with it anyway, as I was a little curious about how their HEA would turn out. Pippa was a bluestocking of the worst degree, and while I liked that, I also was annoyed by some of the "scientific" things she would suddenly say. They just...didn't really match her, or at least not the way she was being described. I knew she was smart, great, got that, but her word choices just sounded so awkward. 'Course, perhaps they were meant to be that way, and I'm just easily annoyed. :)

But, since Jasper seemed to fall for it, I eventually learned to accept her.

It took every ounce of his strength to keep from leaping over the table, lifting her in his arms, pressing her back against the wall, and ravishing her. He opened his mouth to speak, not knowing what would come, but knowing without a doubt, that if she said one more perfectly reasonable, rational, insane thing, he would not be able to resist her.

And Cross...oh, I loved his temptation lessons for Pippa.

"Temptation . . . " He hesitated, and she found herself leaning forward, eager for this curious, unsettling lesson. "Temptation turns you. It makes you into something you never dreamed, it presses you to give up everything you ever loved, it calls you to sell your soul for one, fleeting moment."

The words were low and dark and full of truth, and they hovered in the silence for a long moment, an undeniable invitation. He was close, protecting her from toppling off the block, the heat of him wrapping around her despite the cold. "It makes you ache," he whispered, and she watched the curve of his lips in the darkness. "You'll make any promise, swear any oath. For one . . . perfect . . . unsoiled taste."

But the thing that finally pulled me in completely was the interaction between Pippa and Cross. As she tried her hardest to be ruined (before her marriage to another man, I might add) I found myself smirking more than a few times, and perhaps even sighing once or twice as well. The tension and chemistry between them quickly built up, and I loved every moment of it!

"You have no idea what I could do to you, Philippa Marbury. The ways I could touch you. The wonders I could show you. I could ruin you without a thought, sink with you to the depths of sin and not once regret it. I could lead you right into temptation and never look back."

The words stole her breath. She wanted it. Every bit of it. She opened her mouh, to tell him so, but no sound would come.

"You see? I've shocked you."

She shook her head. "I have shocked myself." His gaze turned curious, and she added. "Because I find that I would like to experience those things."

Plus, who doesn't love to watch the hero, literally, fall to his knees for the heroine?

By the way, I want a hero who does this when he sees me undress!

His breath caught at the sensation and he froze, knowing with the keen understanding of one who had fallen before that this moment would be his destruction.

Knowing he shouldn't look up.

Knowing he couldn't stop himself.

She was clad in nothing but a corset pantallets and stockings, arms crossed over her chest, cheeks flaming-- the rest wash an irresistible promise.

He fell to his knees.

Of course she realizes that she won't marry Castleton after all. Love always wins. :)

"He might have kissed you, love, but his kiss is nothing like mine, is it?"

She shook her head, her reply coming on heavy gasps of breath. "No." He rewarded her honesty with a long lick along the curl of her ear, pulling the soft lobe of it in his teeth, worrying it until she sighed, "Cross."

[......]

"His kiss doesn't make you cry his name."

"No," she said, pressing her breast into his hand, asking for more.

[.....]

"Tell me, my gorgeous, honest girl, does his kiss make you want to lift your skirts and take your pleasure here? now?"

"No," she confessed, soft and strained.

And this . . . I can't forget this:

She looked down at him, blue eyes fairly glowing with desire. "I want you to want me."

He closed his eyes at that; trust Pippa to be forthright even here, even now, even as she bared herself to his eyes and mouth and hands. Trust her to strip this moment of all remaining shrouds, leaving it raw and bare and honest.

God help him, he told her the truth. He wasn't certain he would do anything but. "I do, love. I want you more than you could ever know. More than I could have ever dreamed. I want you enough for two men. For ten."

She laughed at that, the sound coming on a wicked movement of strong hips and soft stomach. "I don't require ten. Just you."

Favorite Quote:

Here Jasper (Cross) is referring to "doing it wrong" during intimacy.

He couldn't stop himself from saying, softly, "Pippa."

Her gaze locked instantly with his. "Yes?"

"If he hurts you . . . " He paused, hating the way her eyes went wide at the words.

"Yes?"

If he hurts you, leave him.

If he hurts you, I'll kill him.

"If he hurts you . . . he's doing it wrong." It was all he could say. He released her hand. "Roll again."

Later, Pippa uses his words against him, but this time in regards to how he's been treating her heart.

She looked down at her lap, hands twisted in the white linen of her nightgown and whispered. "You once told me that if Castleton hurt me, he wasn't going it right."

He stilled. "Yes."

She met his eyes. "You're not going it right."

4 STARS! A few bumps along the way, some slow parts, but overall I loved it, great chemistry between Cross and Pippa. If you love historical romances, Sarah MacLean is definitely the  author to try. I've only read two of her books so far, but I've enjoyed both, and I plan on reading more!

Soo... did I use enough quotes, do you think? :) I couldn't help it, there were so many I marked when I read this one. I had to share. I'm a QuoteWhore anyway. And a CoverWhore. So this book made me very happy!

Enjoy!
