8 Years of Blogging + Giveaway!

It's hard to believe that I started the blog 8 years ago this month. Some days it feels like it's been even longer than that, other days it feels like it was only yesterday. Time's funny that way.

Many of you already know the story of why I started the blog. In many ways, it's similar to the story of so many other bloggers and romance readers.

I needed a place to share my thoughts on the books I was reading, books that I didn't share with any one in my life.

I needed a place to go when real life was difficult.

I found all of that and so much more through the blog, through the romance novels themselves, and especially through the online romance community -- in particular my romance Twitter tribe.

Seven Years and a Giveaway!

Seven years ago today, I started TBQ's Book Palace.

Yeah, I can't believe it either. Seven years. SEVEN YEARS. Where has the time gone? And more importantly why have so many of you stuck around for the journey?

I'm kidding.

Mostly.

When I first pushed "publish", I never dreamed that I'd be writing this post today, that the blog would still be going.

I never dreamed that it would grow like it has, year by year, or that I'd have so many great opportunities come up.

I never dreamed that I would "meet" so many wonderful readers, bloggers, and authors. That I would discover so many great books.

Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaways, and thank you for following TBQ's Book Palace. It's been 5 years since I started the blog, and while I've changed many things, I know that in the coming years the blog will no doubt go under more changes. 5 Year Blogoversary Giveaway!

Can you believe it's been 5 years since I started TBQ's Book Palace? Yeah, neither can I!

In that time I've (slowly) learned some things. From HTML codes (basics only, mind you) to how to approach a publisher for an ARC. I've changed the blog layout and design a few times, moved things around, added new things and changed the way I write my reviews (trust me, this one's a good thing--my earliest reviews on here are horrible, especially the titles for the posts!).

I've started a few memes. First was Lusting for Covers, which I run every Sunday. I'm a CoverWhore (and Proud!), and I love nothing more than to share a gorgeous cover every week, as well as see what cover you've been lusting after.

Then this past year I started Ink Readers, a pen-pal program for book lovers. I've had a great time writing letters to the various members, and the highlight of my week is when I find a letter in my mail. It's right up there with finding a book in the mailbox. :D If you'd like to join the fun, you can find all the information for the group, including the sign up link, here. We're a small group right now, but we're slowly growing!

And just two months ago, Wickedly Delicious and I started the Shifter-a-Thon-Read-a-Long. We have a group page on GoodReads, which is where the discussion and fun takes place, but the two of us also post about the group on our blogs, as well as our reviews of the books. June's pick is Delicate Freakn' Flower by Eve Langlais, which I cannot wait to start. For more information, check out this post!

This past year I started working with Kame, who's been writing many wonderful guest reviews for me. Thanks, Kame! :) (Also, to anyone interested in trying their hand at a guest review or two, see this page for more info!)

But most importantly, I've met many wonderful readers and bloggers, and I hope to meet even more in the years to come! Maybe even one of these days I'll be able to get to RT or RWA and meet you guys in person. But until then, feel free to chat with me here on the blog, on Facebook, Twitter, GoodReads, or just through email. :) I'm always happy to talk books!

Now, last year I had a whole month of giveaways and author visits planned. This year? Yeah, I kind of forgot about my blogoversary until...ahem, May. Oops. So I'm afraid it won't be as big as last year. BUT, I'm still doing TWO giveaways, with FOUR winners. Here's what I'm giving away:

Blogoversary Giveaway: Four Weeks, Four Genres! (Week 1)

It's Historical week here at TBQ's Book Palace as part of my 4 year blogoversary celebration!

This post kicks off the rest of the week's events. Plus, did I mention there's a giveaway involved? :) Read on!

Oh, and for all my international readers--check out this post for your chance to win during my blogoversary. :)

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

Ah, historical romances... they will always have a special place in my heart!

Dashing lords make me swoon.

Devilish rogues make my heart flutter.

Hm..wonder if he goes commando...
Who wants to find out? *Me!*
Thanks to Melissa's Pinterest!
And Highlanders...Oh my, they make all sorts of good (but naughty!) things happen. Yes, yes... *ahem*

In other words, if it's a historical romance, I'm all over it!

When I started reading romance novels (years before I should have--I think we all have this story to tell, right? Where we would sneak the books into our bedroom to read during our young teen years? :D ), it was the historical ones that really grabbed me. I didn't care much for contemporaries (with the exception of Nora Roberts), I had yet to meet my second favorite (paranormal/fantasy), and I wasn't to the point yet where I dared to sneak an erotica novel.

Historicals have it all---great heroes, whether they're rich or poor, titled or not, a gentleman or a rogue. The heroines are often strong and refuse to fit into Society's pre-made mold. The romance is always epic and sweet and passionate--and if we're lucky, witty and steamy, as well. :) In other words, not only do they allow us to fantasize about a time that we've never seen, but they also have the best of everything romance.

Well hello, sexy...
Do you need help with
your...sword? ;)
Thanks to Melissa's Pinterest!
If you haven't picked up a book from this genre, I'd like to know why. And if you have, but didn't like it, all I can say is you must not have found the right one yet. They are out there, I promise. There is a historical romance for everyone--you just have to find it. Seek it out, you must! :)

I've read hundreds of historical romances over the years, loved almost every one of them, and have hundreds more on my wish list. I'm a historical lover. I may read other genres, but in the end, I always come back. If I'm having a dry spell, with more books hitting "meh" than they are "wow", I turn to a historical, because I'm almost guaranteed to love it.

It's hard to pinpoint a favorite historical novel I've read--there have been so many, and each one has been a favorite for a different reason. But I have to pick one [series] (giveaway alert!), so here we go...

Since book one, I've had a soft spot for Jennifer Ashley's Mackenzie brothers. They are such great men, tortured heroes all of them, though for different reasons. I've read 1-3 (still need to read Hart's story!), and LOVED every moment of them. And now I'm going to share the series with you!

The Highland Pleasures Series:

Books 1-4 [5 and 6 out next year!]

Book 1
LOVED--sorry,
never reviewed.
Book 2
Read my review!

Book 3
Read my review!
Book 4
Must. Read. Now!
