[Pat's Review]: "My Kind of Wonderful"

My Kind of Wonderful by Jill Shalvis
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing (December 22, 2015)
Series: Cedar Ridge, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance

UNEXPECTED AND UNDENIABLE...

Bailey Moore has an agenda: skiing in the Rockies, exploring castles in Europe, ballroom dancing in Argentina. Now that she has a second lease on life, she's determined not to miss a thing. What she doesn't realize is that item #1 comes with a six-foot-one ski god hot enough to melt a polar ice cap. She doesn't want to miss out on him either, but Hudson Kincaid isn't the type of guy to love and let go. And as gorgeous as Cedar Ridge is, she's not planning to stick around.

As head of ski patrol at his family's resort, Hud thinks he's seen it all. But never has he run into someone like Bailey. She might look delicate, but her attitude is all firecracker. And her infectious joy touches something deep within him that he's been missing far too long. Now he'll just have to convince Bailey to take a chance on her biggest adventure yet . . . something rare and all kinds of wonderful.

Pat's Review:

Reading novels by Jill Shalvis are never a disappointment, and this second book in the Cedar Ridge Trilogy is no exception.

The Kincaid family consisting of brothers, step brothers and wives and a sister are still working tirelessly to save their home and livelihood, Cedar Ridge Resort. Hudson Kincaid, "Hud", is a part time cop, and works ski patrol, and most everything else for the resort. His job is 24/7 and trying to keep his Mom, Carrie under control is not easy. She is in assisted living, suffering with bouts of dementia. She can be here one minute and the next believe Hud and his twin Jacob are 8 years old again. Her latest surprise is that she has hired a young woman to paint a family mural at the resort, a very large mural. The rest of the family is all in, not Hud. Until he meets the muralist.

Bailey Moore wakes up everyday happy to be alive after years battling Hodgkins Disease. Her mother is too protective as is her ex fiancĂ© Aaron, but they are still best  friends. She is in love with the idea of this mural. Hud and Bailey meet under unusual circumstances, and she walks away thinking of him as the "Mountain Hottie." When she finds out who he really is she has to reevaluate her thinking....he is definitely a hottie, her girly parts like him a lot, but he is very grumpy.

This is a heartwarming love story about a man shouldering loads of guilt and a woman who just wants to experience real life for the first time in years.  They are immediately drawn to each other, and the pages sizzle. He could manage everything, his life, the resort ,  his siblings even his mother slipping in and out. What he couldn't handle was losing Bailey. He almost came to that conclusion too late.

As always with Ms. Shalvis's novels there's humor, sibling rivalry and serious topics too. Anxiously awaiting the third book in the series.
