Pat's Review: The Schemer

The Schemer by Avery Flynn
Publisher: Entangled: Amara (February 5, 2018)
Series: Harbor City, 3
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Tyler Jacobson has a plan for everything—except how to handle his completely annoying, utterly frustrating, and totally sexy upstairs neighbor. He couldn't care less if Everly Ribinski thinks he's equally irritating—until he discovers she's the only one who can help him land a business deal that will finally make him feel like he's more than just a guy from the wrong side of the tracks.

Color him shocked when Everly refuses to help, insisting she should have run him over in the parking garage when she had the chance. Harsh. But possibly deserved. Tyler may have spent the last few months reveling in annoying the fiery gallery owner with a dark past, but he's got secret leverage she can't refuse.

If only one meeting didn't turn into a fake date that turned into more. Way more. Like naked and hot as hell more.

The last thing either of them wants is to catch feelings for someone who is so obviously not their type. Good thing that will never happen. Right?

Reviews for Flynn's books:

Pat's Review:

The Schemer is the third book in the Harbor City series, and it’s funny, sexy, and emotional.

Tyler Jacobsen is an up-and-coming businessman trying to hide his roots. He grew up in the blue collar town of Waterbury. After a scholarship to a prep school, a voice teacher to get rid of his accent, and a few amazing business deals, he is living in Harbor City and looking for his next winning acquisition. Jet-lagged one night, he stumbles (literally) into a new tenant, Everly Ribinski. Gorgeous with an attitude. He is exhausted and his brain isn’t connected, so their first conversation was a little hostile. He is 2B and she is 3B, and the fun begins.Their banter is hysterical.

Everly is a gallery owner and her Black Hearts Art Gallery is in a retail area of her apartment building, which is pricey to rent, but convenient. 2B enjoys getting under her skin. He burns everything he cooks, requiring the fire department to come three times in a month. He steals her favorite parking space and is always complaining about her high heels clomping around. Her heels are her signature style!

Worst of all, she finds out he is her landlord. A crazy kind of friendship forms and she tells her best friend Kiki

”Fighting with Tyler feels a lot like foreplay. And she liked it.”

Everly is falling for Tyler, reluctantly, both understanding it will only last till it’s not fun anymore. Tyler wants to take advantage of one of Everly’s mentors and propose a huge hotel deal to him, and it seems to be working, until an outburst by Everly at a gala make Tyler say things to her that devastate her. The fun is over. He realizes his mistake, but Everly has already changed things up. At this point I really wanted to shake them both!

This book is a fun romantic comedy with sizzle, a hilarious heroine, and great characters. It can be read alone, but the first two books in the series are equally enjoyable.

4 STARS!
